MUSEUMS, HISTORY & HERITAGE

1. ANSETT TRANSPORT MUSEUM

Unearth the intriguing history of the iconic Ansett Airways, with a 1928 Fokker Aircraft and aviation memorabilia housed in the company’s first aircraft hanger. Enjoy a guided tour by passionate volunteers – hop aboard an Ansett bus and don’t miss the retro uniform displays!

4. HAMILTON PASTORAL MUSEUM

See demonstrations of lost trades like blacksmithing, leatherwork and woodturning amidst the period streetscape, and have a local guide reveal the displays of agricultural machinery, tools, tractors. Don’t miss a ride on the Miniature Railway too!

2. CAMPE'S MOTOR MUSEUM

Glenn will guide you through his pristine collection of over 80 vintage, veteran and classic cars, trucks and motorbikes. Cycle on a penny farthing and toot the horn in a Clipper bus as you hear stories from this much-loved local.

5. DUNKELD & DISTRICT HISTORICAL MUSEUM

Have a passionate local reveal interesting stories about Dunkeld amidst curated displays of historical artifacts spanning hundreds of years in this 1865 ex-Church, an important stop on the Dunkeld Heritage Trail.

3. VOLCANOES DISCOVERY CENTRE

Explore how volcanoes are formed, their geology, their history in Western Victoria, the interaction of the Koori people with volcanoes and handle volcanic rocks, led by knowledgeable volunteers. Tour guides are also available to take you on a walk up Penshurst’s own Mt Rouse and the old quarry to see how lava flows and different layers of eruptions.

6. HAMILTON HISTORY CENTRE

Organise a guided walking tour of Hamilton’s historical buildings, homesteads or cemeteries by an informed local, starting from this small historical museum packed with genealogy and resource materials, 2000+ local historical photographs and a lace collection.

INDIGENOUS & CULTURAL

1. BUDJ BIM TOURS

Experience the history of the Gunditjmara people through the eyes of an expert Indigenous guide on a tour through the Budj Bim National Heritage Landscape. See remnants of a settled lifestyle including circular stone dwellings, and Australia’s first and largest freshwater stone aquaculture system before a bush tucker lunch.

2. EAGLE ABORIGINAL TOURS

Hear the stories and connect with the indigenous history of our region on a guided tour of sacred sites and areas of cultural significance, led by local Gunditjmara/Boandik Elder, Uncle Johnny Lovett.

3. KOONDOOM YARKEEN KARWEEYN

Traditional Aboriginal Dance Group based on Gunditjmara Country offering all types of local cultural experiences, including Welcome to Countries and smoking ceremonies.

WINERIES & CELLAR DOORS

1. ROYAL MAIL HOTEL CELLAR TOUR

Enjoy comparative tastings of local and international wine from the award-winning Royal Mail Wine Cellar, which houses the largest collection of Burghundy in the Southern Hemisphere.

4. BOCHARA WINES

Call into the quaint soldier settler cottage at Bochara Wines near the Wannon and Nigretta Falls, 10 minutes from Hamilton, for tastings, platters and a chat with passionate wine-makers Martin and Kylie.

2. PIERREPOINT WINES

 Enjoy a cheese platter, wine tastings and giant garden games with local wine-makers Jennifer and Andrew in Tarrington’s rustic vineyard and cellar door.

5. HOCHKIRCH WINES

Organise a group tour to learn about biodynamic viticulture practices with innovative wine-makers John and Jennifer at this acclaimed winery in Tarrington.

3. HERRMANN WINES

Visit Dunkeld’s newest cellar door with staggering views of the Grampians National Park at Herrman Wines.

6. HENTY ESTATE

Arrange a tour of the vineyards with Matilda and Michael at Henty Estate to talk all things cool-climate wines and volcanic soils.

Tour the largest kitchen garden in Australia with a passionate Royal Mail Hotel chef beneath Grampians views.

3. ROX COFFEE

Groups up to 20 can immerse themselves in the journey from roasting coffee beans to making latte art and enjoying tastings in the original stables of 1870’s coffee shop; Roxburgh House.

2. GLENELG FINE CHOCOLATES

Visit Coleraine’s quaint chocolate factory to meet the makers and taste traditionally-made fine confectionary.

4. HOMESTEAD ENTERPRISES

Embrace the country and learn preserving, cheese-making, smoking or jam-making with Linda from Homestead Enterprises.

WILDERNESS & WILDLIFE

1. NATIVE WILDLIFE TOUR

Meet quolls, dunnarts, wallabies and more on a feeding time tour of the Royal Mail Hotel’s conservation department’s captive breeding program..

2. HAMILTON INSTITUTE OF RURAL LEARNING

Spot endangered Eastern Barred Bandicoots on a torch-lit tour through the Parklands Enclosure, or take a guided walk through the indigenous food gardens and veggie patches, spotting native flora and fauna on the nature trail around the reservoir and wetlands.

3. GRAMPIANS NATURE PROGRAMS

Wilderness adventures and experiences for groups in forest surrounded by the Grampians, including animal tracking, edible weed foraging, collaborative art, campfire adventure stories and equipment displays with explorers, John and Suzi Muir.

ART GALLERIES & WORKSHOPS

1. HAMILTON GALLERY

Go behind the scenes at our acclaimed regional Gallery on a 1-hour guided tour of the most fascinating pieces from the 9000+ piece collection, through exhibitions, or arrange a bespoke talk, film or workshop.

4. WILLOW, VIOLET & FLORA

Lisa from Willow, Violet and Flora can host group painting, floral arranging or wreath-making classes and run tours of her sustainable flower farm in Tarrington.

2. PETSCHEL HOUSE

Artist-led group painting classes and inspiring spaces abound at this homestead, studios and gallery, with landscaped gardens, orchards, farm animals and home produce.

5. HIRL CERAMICS STUDIO

Ceramicist Julie Love can run hand-building and wheel-based pottery classes for small groups in the mudbrick Creative Arts Studios at HIRL.

3. GRAY ST FLOWERS

Linda can run hands-on floristry and plant-based workshops for groups large and small with her signature organic style.

6. NIGHT PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP

Enjoy a photography tour of hands-on workshop for your group, including Capturing the Night sky and Light Painting in the Moonlight.

BIG NATURE

1. GRAMPIANS NATIONAL PARK (GARIWERD)

World-class hikes, mountain views, aboriginal rock art, flora and fauna… whether bushwalking solo or on a guided hike, taking a scenic drive or hitting the best lookouts, this is unmissable.

4. LAKE HAMILTON

Arrange group fishing, stand-up paddle boarding, waterskiing or rowing on Lake Hamilton, or simply stroll the serene lakes edge on a 45 min lap.

2. WANNON FALLS, NEAR HAMILTON

Park by the accessible viewing platform for birds-eye views of this thirty-metre vertical precipice of hardened basalt lava, over which water cascades into a deep plunge pool.

5. MOUNT ROUSE, PENSHURST

Summit one of Australia’s youngest extinct volcanoes and take in panoramic views of our most extensive volcanic province after visiting the Volcanoes Discovery Centre.

3. NIGRETTA FALLS, NEAR HAMILTON

Take your group to marvel at this red-hued volcanic rock cascade from the viewing platform, or descend the jarrah timber stairway to the base for an up-close experience.

6. ROCKLANDS RESERVOIR, GLENISLA

Arrange group activities like fossicking around Victoria’s 3rd largest inland waterway, with views of the Grampians and Black Range State Park.

GLORIOUS GARDENS

1. HAMILTON BOTANIC GARDENS

Tour Victoria’s third oldest Botanic Gardens with its quaint rotunda, new bird aviary, magnificent fountains, bridges and sweeping oak walk.

2. DUNKELD ARBORETUM

Refresh your group amidst 7,000 trees in this scenic water reserve, including the Nation’s 2nd largest collection of oaks, sawmill, carved sculptures and mosaic labyrinth.

3. PENSHURST WETLANDS GARDENS

Near Mt Rouse, tour the 13-acre Wetlands Gardens with its never-failing spring, soothing lake, gazebo and impressive swamp cypress canopy over the footbridge.
